Vista/Office 2007 Upgrade Status

Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade Status

Since its release, the ITS department has been evaluating the possible move to the latest Microsoft operating system for PC based computers. After much testing, upgrade to Microsoft Vista will be postponed until a number of flaws are resolved and several courseware specific applications are upgraded to work in the new environment. ITS will continue to evaluate Vista throughout the 07/08 academic year and hopes to certify its use for the 08/09 academic year.
Vista on desktop office computers throughout faculty, staff and administrative offices will also be postponed until the start of the Refresh/Recycle program in July 2008.
In the mean-time, it is important for faculty, staff and administrative users to notify ITS when Vista versions of their applications are available. ITS will assist in the preparation of the purchase requisition.
Is My System Capable of Running Windows Vista?

Microsoft has a tool to help you determine if your system is ready to run Windows Vista, the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. This tool will analyze your system and give you a report about possible compatibility problems with your hardware and software. Information Services will notify each user of whether or not their system is Vista ready as we progress with our testing. However, if you want to check your sytem's configuration against Vista's requirements, use the following link to download the Upgrade Advisor: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

Microsoft Office 2007 Upgrade Status

The determination to move the Office productivity suite has always rested with the CIS 100 course administrator. There responsibility for the selection of the standard is assigned to them with their responsibility for UDM’s core curriculum component that teaches a product all faculty can be assured their students will know. CIS 100 is evaluating the Office 2007 suite and is required to make a decision by August 1, 2007. Until a favorable decision to move CIS 100 to Office 2007 is made, it will remain an unsupported option in both the ITS Labs and faculty, staff and administrative office computing environments.
For users who receive an Office 2007 file, Microsoft has provided a free converter. Use the following link to download the Converter: http://office.microsoft.com/search/redir.aspx?AssetID=DC102052461033&Origin=HH102132391033&CTT=5
