Free Anti-Virus for Resident Students

From year-to-year, the University provides free commercial anti-virus protection to current students living in the campus residence halls.

During Freshman move-in as you move through the registration tables, the Helpdesk will have available an installation CD with a one-year McAfee Anti-Virus license and other useful programs (including the official UDM Windows Screen Saver.

Resident students who need to pick up their license after the freshman move-in date may do so by bringing their University identification card and residence prox card to the Helpdesk in Fisher 230.  The Helpdesk staff will verify name and room location.  You will be required to sign an agreement form that will be filed with McAfee.  The agreement form basically states that you will not distribute the software to anyone else including other resident students.  Other residents should be encouraged to pick-up their copy from the Helpdesk in Fisher 230.

User who already own a full-fledge copy of a anti-virus product may not need the installation CD.  Users who have only a trial license installed on their computer should pick-up the installation CD.

Please note that all users should never install more than one anti-virus protection application.  Multiple anti-virus protection applications on one computer will typically compete against each other resulting in a very slow computer.  Only one anti-virus product that is updated daily is necessary.

We regret that we are unable to provide virus protection for non-Windows computers.
